tree proposal

here is a copy of the tree proposal i took to the Ferndale 20 year visioning....
What: all future trees planted by city be food producing whenever possible. Instead of sterile ornamental trees organically grown fruiting varieties would be planted instead. The flowering cherry would flower and produce cherries. Other great possibilities are pears, apples Asian pears, plums and the list goes on. A citizen may donate a tree and work with the city to find a suitable location.
Citizens could harvest the fruit (no fighting). A group of volunteers, working closely with the city, would commit time for harvest and clean up as needed. A program where a citizen could adopt a tree could be set up. Presentations in the schools could promote involvement by young people. Harvests could be taken to the food bank.

Willing to adopt a tree:
Peggy Borgens- 384-0861 peggyb@memes.com

Willing to serve on board/commission of citizens:
Peggy Borgens

Start immediately.

No cost: simply select different trees for trees already planned. A citizen group would be formed to ensure enthusiasm and involvement in the community.

Measure:
Harvest and clean-up done in timely manner.
Keep track of harvest brought to food bank.
